Riverford Farm Shop, Staverton

Staverton Farm Shop

The new shop is the same as ever; just bigger and better. As a real farm shop, the traditional  butchers counter and ‘endless harvest festival’ fruit and vegetable areas are still at the heart of things. You’ll also find carefully chosen ranges of provisions, wine, beer, cider, soft drinks, cheese etc. Riverford Organic Dairy obviously has a strong presence, as does our ‘old favourite’  pies and pasties. There’s a self service olive bar, local ice creams and much more – mainly from familiar local organic producers and suppliers.

Still relatively new and growing fast is the cafe. It’s been a soft take off because, whilst recognizing that people would like to  enjoy their Riverford shop with a coffee and snack, a food shop is what it’s always been and will continue to be so. The last thing we want do is masquerade as a shop but actually be an enormous tea room. However the cafe definitely has its place and with so much wonderful food it would be a shame not to be able to offer it on a plate. so that’s what we’re doing.

The old shop was bursting at the seams so we have made some major changes and hope you will agree that it’s a big improvement. It certainly is to work in. Saying that, the customers (many of whom have been shopping here since we began in 1984) seemed to love it that way, but now we have the space to offer much more of the seasonal best.

You will find just about everything you could possibly imagine, and all the staff are keen to help you with ideas on how to use it. Ask one of the butchers which would be the best cut of meat to use in a particular recipe, and he will be pleased to give you his advice.  You will not find anything over-packaged, over-priced or over-processed here but you will find real, local, organic food and drink.

People drive from miles around to visit us. They have even been known to ask estate agents to find them houses nearby; because we were forcing house prices up we thought we had better open another shop elsewhere! Hence you will find us in Totnes, on the high street and at Yealmpton shop (where we are able to offer our customers a cracking Riverford breakfast in our Riverford Café).
